PRODUCT REVIEW - Estrella Daura

Recently, I wrote a post called "Best Gluten Free Beer... EVER?!??" about the Spanish beer-maker Estrella's new gluten free beer made from real beer!!

Well, last week I tried it.

And it was great.

Not best beer ever, but that's because my favorite beer is Guiness. If your favorite beer is Bud Lite, then this is your favorite beer ever.

I found it (finally) at the American Beer in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. They also carry New Grist, Greene's Beer, and probably Red Bridge (although I can't remember).

Not too pricey, $8 for a 4-pack (could be worse), but so tasty I would but it again and again and again.

You should too.

NEWS - Trader Joe's in Brooklyn Carries Udi's Gluten Free!

This just in! The Trader Joe's on Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn carries Udi's bagels, white bread, and whole wheat bread. This is a very exciting day indeed.

Check out the gluten free list from Trader Joe's. It isn't updated for the Udi's products, but it does contain all the other gluten free products that Trader Joe's carries.

Have you seen Udi's products at other Trader Joe's?

NEWS - Whole Foods Coming to Brooklyn!

Woohoo!!! The title says it all: Brooklyn is finally going to get its own Whole Foods.

Here's the article from the NY Daily News.

The new store will open in late 2012 in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn (between Park Slope and Red Hook). Specifically, the store will be at the corner of 3rd Ave and 3rd St.

A first for Whole Foods, the article states that the roof of the building will house a greenhouse to grow organic produce.

NEWS - GF Restaurant Search Engine

I realized earlier this week that it's been...oh 2 months or so... that we've actually planned on gone out to dinner at a restaurant. Pre-gluten free days, we'd go out at least once or twice a month, and now the majority of cooking is done in our own kitchen.

I tried the basic google searches for "gluten free restaurant nyc", but it's tricky. There are very very few restaurants that are exclusively gluten free, and there are a decent number of restaurants that have naturally gluten free dishes but don't actively advertise it.

So this website should make that search a lot easier. Go to this site for the Gluten-Free Restaurant Awareness Program. I put in my zip zode and a max radius of 10 miles, and there are 31 restaurants that participate in this program. I'm sure that there are more (I live in Brooklyn...), but it's nice to see that there are more than 2. And there are restaurants on the list that I already knew have gluten free options, which is nice.

Have you seen a better gluten free restaurant search engine? Leave a comment and let me know.
