PRODUCT REVIEW - Trader Joe's Gluten Free Pancake Mix

You can have: breakfast for breakfast, breakfast for dinner, breakfast for brunch, breakfast at midnight. Forget "pizza on a bagel", you can have breakfast anytime!

So yesterday, when I had breakfast at 1pm, I decided to try Trader Joe's gluten free pancake / waffle mix.

It's very easy to make, just as easy as regular pancake mix. Just take your mix, add an egg, some oil, and some milk or water, and stir. You know the drill.

And while these pancakes did turn out nice and fluffy on the inside (which may have been in part to the extra tsp of baking soda I added), the outside was pretty hard and rubbery. The pancakes themselves reminded me of those rubber frisbee things. It was a little odd.

Besides that, the taste was great, very neutral, and the texture on the inside was very nice. Also, a tip, the pancakes didn't bubble in the middle to tell you they were ready to flip, you have to check them.

Overall, this mix cost ~$3, and is definitely worth it for a nice pancake breakfast. They're certainly no Waffle House or IHOP, but they will do just fine.

Have you tried this or other pancake mixes? Let me know!

  1. Those pancakes sound delicious, except for the whole rubbery texture bit. I love breakfast all the time!

  2. Fabulous that TJ's is at least trying! The closest Trader Joe's to me (Twin Cities, MN) carries barely any gluten-free products! I'm recently GF so I'm still experimenting with lots of different products. So far, Pamela's is by far my favorite. Thanks for the reviews, very helpful!

  3. Thanks for the comment! That's a bummer that your TJ's doesn't carry much in the way of gluten free products. I wonder if you can request specific products at TJs?
